DANCE COMPANIES
Greater York Youth Ballet

The Greater York Youth Ballet provides intensive training, individual coaching, performance opportunities and the discipline of a pre-professional dance environment to aspiring dancers. Members study a variety of styles to gain skills and proficiency. Most youth ballet dancers are college-bound or wish to pursue professional careers.

Students in the Ballet Division (Levels 1-7) earn their place in the Greater York Youth Ballet Pre-professional Program through dedication, discipline and hard work. Levels are Training, Apprentice and Full Sr. Company Member. The position of Apprentice offers a unique learning opportunity to GYCDE ballet students. Dancers are invited to work though the Apprentice Levels (3-5) when their technique reaches a certain level and the student has shown a consistent standard of emotional maturity. An ability to accept and concentrate on corrections and maintain a good work ethic is a determining factor in this leveling process. Apprentices learn rehearsal skills, how to understudy and experience a vital part of their dance education. In the upper levels, they observe more advanced dancers at work and are able to practice roles beyond their level of experience. In addition, they learn how to learn choreography and work with professional artists. Opportunities expand as dancers adjust to this fast pace of learning.

For serious dancers who are already highly motivated, the element of FUN is important to us! Dancing an intense, busy schedule should be a “labor of love” in an atmosphere of learning that is both positive and well-disciplined. Tension, harsh words, or yelling is not a part of our classroom environment.

A company training program is offered as dancers begin on the pre-professional track (from age 6 ½). These students take a recommended minimum of ballet classes in addition to other classes of their choice. Although most trainees study 3-4 days per week, there are no attendance requirements. A conference with the Artistic Director is necessary to enter as a Trainee. Please inquire.

Believe

BELIEVE is a worship dance company led by Breanna Rufle.  The dancers are assisted in creating beautiful, inspiring choreography in honor of God.  Members of BELIEVE have the opportunity to lend to the choreography with their own movements that they feel expresses the music.  BELIEVE members need to be enrolled in one other ballet or modern class per week.  BELIEVE will perform at select GYCDE performances and for area churches.

Hip Hop Company

Hip Hop Company is open to all dancers without an audition.  GYCDE's Hip Hop company provides an amazing outlet for self-expression!  Under the direction of Cori Fetrow, dancers will learn the most up-to-date choreography.  The company rehearsal teaches proper warm-up, develops flexibility, strength and overall fitness, teaches teamwork and helps each dancaer develop their own unique, funky style.  Members of the Hip Hop Company need to be enrolled in one other Hip Hop class per week.  They will be invited to perform at GYCDE performances such as the June Show and for other places where Greater York dancers are invited to perform.

Glitter Girl Ballet Club & Broadway Bound Glitter Kids

The Glitter Girl Ballet Club (Ballet dances) and the Broadway Bound Glitter Kids (Tap, Jazz, Hippity Hop dances) are classes designed especially for the 5-7 year old child.  Dancers take at least one other class per week and enjoy these special performance classes.
